Where does the time go?

As some of you may know I have not had much time for anything as of late. Between the kindergarten schedule, the coaching sessions I have been taking (will explain in a moment), the practice schedule I had adapted for my music, my jogging schedule, college, working on finishing the house, unpacking, and the overall duties that come with motherhood there is just not enough time for anything. When I am not on the go, the kids are. It is hectic at the moment, but I know that what I am doing will pay off in the long run… Eventually… Or so I hope.

So back to the coaching thing… In Germany they have a coaching thing that is free through the social service offices. It basically means that you will have someone come to your house twice a week that will help you clean the house and deal with the kids. They teach you methods of organization and how to keep the kids from messing up everything once you have it all cleaned. All of this goes toward the goal of making more time for moms that feel like they are constantly cleaning and never seeing an end to it. My husband thinks it is a great idea, I however, am not so sure.

Yesterday my coach came to the house and we basically just started cleaning and she left after about three hours. The kids were asleep for two of those hours so she did not have the joy that I do of seeing them in action. Almost immediately after she left the kids decided that they were awake. Consequently it was the same moment I decided to take a 5 minute shower. I get out of the shower only to find that I have to redo everything I had done that morning. I did so in record time without complaint. Yet overall I had to redo the same thing 5 more times until the kids were finally passed out from exhaustion and so was I. So I got up this morning and cleaned up yet again.

How does this training thing help and make more time for me you ask… I have no idea, but if you figure it out please let me know. With all I have to do schedule wise, I doubt I will ever see my good old friend called time until the kids are older. I’m ok with that so long as I don’t have people trying to fill me with false hope that time actually does exist. Time left on the day I gave birth for the first time. It packed its bags and took off running for the door. When it could not escape that way it jumped out of the window and I have not seen it since. Think I’m kidding.

Here is some of the things that are also being set up for me to do in the future. Taking Alex to appointments two or three times a week, school to make sure I have integrated into German life, a part-time job, because let’s face it, I have no more time to give to a job. Other activities include going back and forth to Munich to make sure I have a little sanity time, walking back and forth to the store for grocery shopping, planning a trip to the states so I can get a drivers license, and a whole slew of other things that have not occurred to me. And these things are suppose to make time for me? Right… I will buy these items as time vampires, but don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining. Like I said, I’ve no issue knowing how time-consuming these things are, so long as no one is trying to instill false hope. Kids and activities that come with kids take up time. Add that to the time it takes to maintain college and what you consider to be your life or what is left of it and that is even more time. Time plus time equals less time for you. That’s just math, which says a lot coming from a person that is practically math illiterate.

Darcy James Argue's Secret Society

We’ve checked out the music they make available online (there’s an unfortunately limited number of tracks available to purchase on iTunes) – their website has substantially more, and – it’s free!

These guys remind me of this group of musicians that stopped me in my tracks on the way home from my (now abandoned) corporate job. They were playing in the Herald Square station at 34th Street (by the N/R/W & F/B/V/D lines) – and I stood there in my suit – mesmerized. I bought the CD immediately.

While Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society doesn’t have the intensity of that group (whose name btw was “Hypnotic Brass Ensemble”), there is an element of the unexpected to the tracks. Interesting grooves – which often deviate from the path one would expect them to go down. In short, it has a sly way of making you NEED to keep listening. All in all, I was a little let down to find that the vast majority of these tunes seem to follow the same structure. Which, tends to make listening to them for more than 45 minutes – well – after 45 minutes, you get the picture. You know what their story is. It’s not bad – in fact, it’s quite good. But it never deviates from the stated groove.

All that said, it would be great to see them live!

It all depends...

A man and his friend were in a city, walking through the street. It was during the noon lunch hour and the streets were filled with people. Cars were honking their horns, taxicabs were squealing around corners, sirens were wailing, and the sounds of the city were almost deafening. Suddenly, the man said to his friend, “I hear a cricket.”

His friend said, “What? You must be crazy. You couldn’t possibly hear a cricket in all of this noise!”

“No, I’m sure of it,” the man said, “I heard a cricket.”

“That’s crazy,” said the friend.

The man listened carefully for a moment, and then walked across the street to a big cement planter where some shrubs were growing. He looked into the bushes, beneath the branches, and sure enough, he located a small cricket. His friend was utterly amazed. “That’s incredible,” said his friend. “You must have super-human ears!”

“No,” said the man. “My ears are no different from yours. It all depends on what you’re listening for.”

“But that can’t be!” said the friend. “I could never hear a cricket in this noise.”

“Yes, it’s true,” came the reply. “It depends on what is really important to you. Here, let me show you.”

He reached into his pocket, pulled out a few coins, and discreetly dropped them on the sidewalk. And then, with the noise of the crowded street still blaring in their ears, they noticed every head within twenty feet turn and look to see if the money that tinkled on the pavement was theirs.

“See what I mean?” asked the man.

“It all depends on what’s important to you.”

I Wanna Work for Facebook!

Hi, Jen. Facebook is hiring.

I was wandering about the Facebook Careers page today after looking for their suggestion box, I had come up with this brilliant idea and I wanted them to know about it! (I was reading my feed and saw that a friend of mine had joined a group called “Facebook needs a dislike button” and then thought to myself that the dislike button should really be a Fail Button, cause its just cooler lingo )

I got excited as I looked around cause not only was I greeted with the “cutting-edge technology company” ’s amusing message, but to my delight there was alot of department job openings and bits everywhere about how great working for Facebook really is. Their perks and benefits page is incredible, everything from 100% coverage of employee benefit premiums (50% for dependents) which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance and disability coverage btw. Free Meals from a full Menu Daily, a full Laundry Service that drops your stuff back to you at your desk at the end of the day! 21 Paid Vacation Days, unlimited Sick Days, and even a decent sounding 401(k) Plan.

So not only does working for Facebook mean that you are part of something huge, innovative and cutting edge, your also really well taken care of while you do it! It really sounds like getting a job at Facebook would be fantastic! I know I’d love it, but Sadly for me, they require degrees (as they should) and all I have is Life, Job and Internet Geek Experience.

Psst Facebook, On the random, never-gonna-happen chance that someone from your company will ever read this blog post, I’m a quick learner and I have a lot of idea’s! (For an Example, See Above ) And I’ve been an Avid Facebook User for over 2 years )

Basically my point here is, Good on you Facebook, Hopefully one day in the Future (When the Economy Magically gets better) more companies (more everyday companies that is) will be able to provide their employee’s with the positive, striving, and comfortable atmosphere that you provide. Til then, the rest of us can dream right?
